Strong Bones
One of my favorite things to do [and has been since I was a little tater-tot] is to go swimming. As a result of that, I’ve always felt very much at home in the water. I think that if I wasn’t placed on the earth as a human, I would have been a fish, especially since anytime I’m around water I immediately feel at ease. Tonight as I went for a midnight swim and felt the water seep...

Get Thirsty
Yo! A new voice is joining forces with YBTC… I’m Kimi and have been given the privilege to “guest” blog for this great cause. I met up with YBTC over a year ago and soon learned how thirsty I was to join the movement towards getting clean water to the world! This word “thirsty” has gotten me thinking lately. The dictionary defines it as thus: (adj.)...

Water and Education
Water-related diseases cost 443 million school days a year. More than 150 million school-age children are severely affected by waterborne parasites like roundworm, whipworm, and hookworm. These children commonly carry up to 1000 parasites at a time, causing anemia, stunted growth, and other debilitating conditions. Children who suffer from constant water-related illnesses carry the disadvantages...

A reflection...
Reflecting back to our early childhood education, many of us can recall a sense of nostalgic sentiment of excitement. We were anxious to gain knowledge of the world and our peers around us. Perhaps our largest dilemma was forgetting our lunch at home, or even merely fitting in with those around us. Conversely, how would it be if, in addition to this, we bore the responsibility of supplying our...

How do we look at things?
I am going to start this off by telling a story… Our story starts off with a young woman who is complaining to her father about the problems and difficulties of her life. “Come with me” he said. “I want to show you something.” He took her into his kitchen where he put three pots of water on the stove to heat. Meanwhile, he cut up some carrots and put them in the...

Cooperation Makes It Happen
The title of this post “Cooperation Makes it Happen” was one of my favorite segments on Sesame Street when I was a kid. The song is about planting and tending to a garden on Sesame Street, but it’s true message goes way beyond the boundaries of the popular children’s show. One of the most effective ways to make things happen is to put together a solid team that works well...

the power of small
If you think you too small to be effective, you have never been in bed with a mosquito. Betty Reese Funny saying I came across this morning. We may think we may too small to make a difference. But that’s not true. A tiny mosquito in bed can make things unpleasant. I’m not saying that small things make life difficult, but they can. We need to let the difficulties be a learning lesson...

Water and Education... Part 1
Every year 1.8 million children die from diarrhea, far more than armed conflict and terrorism combined. To put that into perspective… Picture a preschool classroom blowing up every six minutes, day and night! Lets look at it from another angle shall we? About 1/2 the girls in Sub-Saharan Africa who drop out of primary school do so because of poor water and sanitation. At any given moment...

Not so fun fact # 2
About 1/2 of American school kids will miss 1 to 5 days of school a year. In the developing world, water-related diseases reduce school attendance overall by nearly 20 percent! How will you help?

How to choose a charity to help? I have to admit so far I have chosen to help by sending money to foundations that research medical issues that I have. That’s been very important to me. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t so many more charities that need help. Even before Jason went to Tanzania, I was aware of the many problems in Africa and elsewhere in third world...

Water and School... Not so fun fact
“Over half of all schools worldwide lack safe water and sanitation, jeopardizing the health and education of millions of schoolchildren. Most of the 115 million children currently out of school are girls. Many are denied their place in the classroom by lack of access to decent toilets at school, or the daily chore of walking miles to collect water.” - UNICEF, 2005

Charity... story telling on an epic scale
I like to take a moment and think about charity a bit. We all know the term, what it means and its concepts. I am sure if we took 5 seconds, we could write down different charitable organizations and/or acts of charity we personally do. Lets take it a step further now. Can we name a charity that tells a story? By story I mean relys the cause they are supporting in compelling and moving way. In a...
